[ADV] Malaysia's Own Oktoberfest @ 1 Utama

Attended my last Malaysia’s Own Oktoberfest this year at 1 Utama last Saturday! Click here and here to read about my experience at Malaysia’s Own Oktoberfest which were held at Hakka Restaurant and Berjaya Times Square.

Presented by Carlsberg Malaysia, Malaysia’s Own Oktoberfest provides consumers an opportunity to taste the authentic German beer and at the same time, enjoy the joyful festive mood. Like I mentioned in the previous posts, the event runs from September 26 to October 7, which means by now it has come to an end.

I’m so glad to have attended 3 of their events this year!  Witnessed a large turnout of consumers at the last event at 1 Utama especially. It was held at the old wing outdoor parking space where a big tent was set up. I could already hear the loud music and feel the party atmosphere as I was walking towards the shopping mall exit!

We can haz Oktoberfest party hat!

Photobucket

As usual, consumers could take home the limited edition Oktoberfest beer stein. This time they even allowed us to customize our name on the stein! Too bad I went to the counter late so didn’t make it.

Photobucket

So glad that Jess accompanied me this time! She stays super near from 1 Utama! Teehee.

Photobucket

Jessy was there too.

Gathered in front of the stage and ready to dance with the crowd! XD

Photobucket

Met up with Wenshen there towards the end of the night. By that time I was looking sweaty after all the dancing and jumping around. Can’t help since it’s outdoor T_T

There was a dunking machine this time! The same game we played during Carlsberg Where’s The Party. Throw a ball and hit the target so the fella would fall into the water container. No doubt one of my favourite games! *evil*

Of course, Malaysia’s Own Oktoberfest is not solely for party-goers at Klang Valley. It was held at 18 key market squares throughout peninsular Malaysia and even East Malaysia! Here are some photos of Malaysia’s Own Oktoberfest at the other states:

The authentic Umpapa band from Germany and the Carlsberg ambassadors in traditional German dress made their appearance at all of these places! Everyone in Malaysia had the chance to experience the carnival like festival!

The beers available at Malaysia’s Own Oktoberfest: (which I’m sure you’re quite familiar with by now if you’ve attended)

Carlsberg (5% ABV/ alcohol) the must-have every time.

Erdinger Weissbier (5.3% ABV) the first German wheat beer to be distributed nationwide in Germany.

Franziskaner Weissbier (5% ABV) my personal favourite despite the slight bitter taste. What a refreshing and smooth wheat beer!

Lowenbrau, (5.2% ABV) a famous beer during Oktoberfest with rather light taste.

To encourage responsible drinking, Carlsberg Malaysia is deploying their employee-ambassadors to distribute brochures and encourage consumers to test their BAC (Breath Alcohol Content).

Full of Resentment. Fatso Lecturer!

Okay I have 36% battery left on my Macbook so I figured I should stay put a little longer at Starbucks and write this blog post. Don’t feel like going home yet anyway. It’s almost 6pm, so I guess I should wait till dinner time. Subway probably, dinner for lonely person according to Jess. LOL. Except she’s not the real lonely one since she’s got her sis staying with her.

Today I’m going to rant about this fei po part time lecturer from my uni that I really resent at the moment. It’s somehow related to a post I wrote at the beginning of this semester. Click here to read.

If you’re too lazy to read, let me summarize the story for you. In the beginning of the semester we were having problem with group arrangement. This lecturer, Miss E (although I think Miss E sounds way too cool for her lo, like E, you know, E! wtf) tried to arrange Angela into a different group since she was absent on the day of the arrangement. By right everyone were supposed to choose our own group one so I was damn pissed off la, insisted to kick out the very arrogant black girl she arranged into our group and put in Angela instead. In the end I win of course. The lecturer probably hold a grudge against our group ever since, which leads to the story I’m about to tell now!

How much is the lowest score possible that someone can score for a presentation out of 10? This is really embarrassing but to be honest, our team got 4.3 out of 10! WTF 4.3, that’s a failed scored! Not even half!!! We happened to see the score sheet from 3 judges, one of which was marked by E. There were 15 components, 5 is the highest mark for each. She marked us 1 for every component!!! 1 out of 5, for every component!!! What the fuck is her problem man! The other 2 lecturers gave us an average score of 3 and 4 which seems reasonable. But this fat biatch simply gave us score of 1 leh wtf!!! If you think we’ve done the presentation badly, NO! We’ve always been high scorers in our presentations for every semester! There’s no way we could have flung it! It’s obvious that she’s doing it purposely to get back to us! Fucking pissed off tell me what did I work so hard for??? For a vengeful part time lecturer who couldn’t give a damn about her students to mark me down just so she could feel good about herself?! Seriously man I’m so angry I can’t help thinking for every curse from a student, she gains an extra kilogram! It’s no wonder she’s fat you see!

FML I’m not making any sense here.

The point is, I’m extremely disappointed with the score she gave us. So I questioned her in the class.

“Miss E, I can’t help but noticed that we were given 1 out of 5 for every component in one of the score sheets. We couldn’t have been so terrible, could we?”

There I said it, but I didn’t even accuse that it was her. Then out of guilty conscious she tried to explain that it wasn’t her who gave us the score. Seriously?! Woman, we know exactly who was using red, purple and black pen okay! It was you who marked us with the red pen! The very same red pen you always tok my Macbook screen with! Jeez. Why try to deny when I didn’t even said it was you who gave us those shit scores? Couldn’t accept the fact that she’s giving us such unfair judgment. So I tried to point out that everything listed in the score sheet is a separate component, and even if we had done badly in part of the contents, it didn’t justify for such awfully low score for all the other parts! But then this fatso started arguing that once the marketing part fails, the other parts didn’t make sense. FUCK YOU LAH what’s the fucking point of the score sheet then! Might as well simply give us a score, don’t even need to follow the criteria! Never encountered such an unreasonable lecturer in my life before! Usually lecturers are really concerned that their students pass the subject. But E doesn’t think that way! She is constantly picking on everyone and pointing out their minor faults here and there. I guess it makes her happy to see us miserable, and she wouldn’t be held responsible after all, since she’s not a full time lecturer in our uni, but rather an evil outsider who has been sent to sentence us to doom.

E is not going to mark anymore of our paper so we have nothing to be afraid of. The rest of our assessment will be sent to Melbourne to be marked by the lecturers there. So I’m going to send an email to complain about her unfair behavior. Even if it wouldn’t bring forth any effect, I’m still going to do it! At least I know I’ve tried! Nobody likes her and she’s not even a good lecturer to begin with. Sunway seriously needs to do a better assessment before recruiting their lecturers. Why hire part-time lecturer like this?? I think I can be a more dedicated and helpful lecturer than her. Ugh, no use blabbering so much here. I can assure she’s going to get what she deserves!

Ending with a few vain photos of me to neutralized the post wtf.

Photobucket

Failed attempt to imitate Hyuna. LOL!

Photobucket
I tried her make up style with the eyeliner drawn downwards, but someone commented it looks no difference from my usual make up! Grr. Applied some glitter powder but it’s not obvious in the photos.

Photobucket

Also lightened my eyebrow with layers with foundation but they still looked way darker compared to hers. No Photoshop installed on my Macbook yet. Damn sad cannot touch up my face properly.

I wanna get a beautiful bling bling top like hers!!!

Photobucket

The invited guests were given VIP treatment at the water chalet! Food, beer, transport, accommodation, everything provided for!

Photobucket

We had a huge part of the beach enclosed for the event! Nothing beats running around barefoot at a beautiful place like this.

Photobucket

Gotta love the location that allowed most of the games to be conducted at the beach. Wonder where the secret location is this time. Hmm. . .

Photobucket

A very unglam sight of me being abducted and getting ready to be thrown into the sea! LOL. Soaking wet in saltwater, swallowing mud and all HAHAHAHA. It was really fun nevertheless! XD

Photobucket

Dunk me – one of the many games that attracted lotsa attention. Someone had to throw a tennis ball and try to hit the hole so the other sitting in the big container would fall into the water. I must had swallowed a great amount of water from that game T_T

Photobucket

Life size pacman game! So cute!!!

The Terryble Incident

*Post renamed. Thanks to Ben for his terrybly smart inspiration XD*

I’m going to write about this interesting incident that happened today.

During our lunch break, Angela, Meiyan and I went to Orange (a hawker restaurant opposite our uni) as usual. It happened that Adam, a close friend of Angela’s was there with 3 of his gang. We sat down for barely 1 minute, then Angela received a call from Terry the annoying guy. If I were to name a guy from uni whom I dislike the most, I wouldn’t give a second thought to that. Terry used to purchase second hand books from Meiyan a few semester back then, and recently we’re taking the same finance subject so he got his opportunities to act all close to us. Being uncool is one thing. But being uncool and annoying, he is simply a major turn off! There was once he intentionally sat next to me during lecture and borrowed my lecture notes after class (which I didn’t quite given my permission but he took it anyhow as if I had the obligation to lend it to him). When I demanded it from him 2 days later, he refused to return it, saying that he’s accidentally torn the side and did not dare to give it to me. It was one of those stupid jokes of his, I knew. I wasn’t pleased, but rather, frustrated at the fact that I couldn’t get back my notes which I’ve been writing on all over while listening attentively in class. Angela knew I was pissed by then so she got my notes back from him. But from then on I have been holding a grudge against this annoying uncool dude who would jump at e very opportunity to pretend like he’s our close friend.

All this while I have been ignoring him whenever he’s around. He eventually realized that I hate him so didn’t dare to bother me anymore. But he wouldn’t stop shutting his mouth whenever Angela and Meiyan are around! We have come to the conclusion that this guy has a huge crush on Meiyan (I would unfriend her if she ever dates him! HAHA). Meiyan’s birthday falls on this week and Terry had been really anxious asking Angela’s opinion on what to buy for her. Unlike me, both of them still talk to him even though they find him annoying. They just don’t know how to be mean and say fuck off! Okay I didn’t exactly say fuck off, but my attitude had said it on my behalf. I swear I have never seen anyone as irritating as him! Displaying his mentality of a 13-year-old. No, actually that’s a very unfair statement because I wasn’t even half as childish or lame when I was 13.

Back to the story. So I went to the toilet after that phone call and guess who was on our table when I came back? Terry the annoying! Oh not again! Please tell me he isn’t joining us for lunch?! Oh he is? FML looks like I’m not gonna have a peaceful meal this time. Once he sat down, he took out his notebook and started asking them silly questions like:

“如果你亲戚结婚,红包要包多少?”

“你一天的消费多少?”

“女孩子一天要吃多少餐?”

To which they answered reluctantly. THEY ANSWERED HIM!!! Seriously man, he could have opted for some matured and intelligent area of discussion if he were to impress a girl. I was eating and reading facts tweets on my bb the whole time while Angela was giggling at my stern disapproving expression. As much as I dislike talking to him, I had to say:

“你很烦!可以不要问这些无聊的问题吗?!“

He said they’re important and he needs them for his research. Wtf kinda research is he doing lah? Stalker research?! Idiot.

He even invited both of them to his hometown, Batu Pahat for a trip or something, to which Angela replied “go to your hometown I might as well go to Kate’s”. This motherfucker thinks I’m invisible or something, he started insulting that my hometown is boring and shit. HELLO??? I SEE HOW FUN AND EXCITING BP IS! NO WONDER THEY RAISE UP ANNOYING UNCOOL BOYS LIKE YOU! Oh wait, my mum is from BP. I guess the town isn't that bad after all. It's just you.

Really buey tahan my hometown is being insulted by a lame person so Iet out an impulse retort. Can’t remember what exactly I said but I remember saying “DIAM 啦!” (not the usual joking way but in a rather angry tone)

Adam, who had shifted next to our table by now whatsapped me saying that the guy was annoying. My reply: Ask him to diam lah. Both of them layan him summore. Zzz

Soon Angela shifted to their table to avoid having to respond to him. I guess Adam reprimanded her also upon seeing my message. LOL.

And then it was just me and Meiyan. That annoying prick just wouldn’t stop it!

“Eh Meiyan. . .”

“Eh Meiyan. . .”

“Eh Meiyan. . .”

Every fucking 10 seconds! What the fuck is his problem!!! Dude we're trying to have our lunch!!!

Then finally someone else other than me couldn’t stand him any longer. Adam tapped his shoulder and asked him nicely to let Meiyan eat in peace. But not only he didn’t get the message, he started barking back like a mad dog! The argument got heated up to the extent that they were going to start a fight! Terry especially was raising his voice and attracting all sort of unnecessary attention from the entire restaurant. 1 vs 4, how dumb can he be? Just shut up already! And as if 4 wasn’t enough, the guys were gonna call and ask for more of their friends. LOL. For this I thought they had gone a little overboard lah. I certainly don’t see the need of beating him up. All he wants was attention, especially attention from Meiyan. Just make sure she stops talking to him that’s all we need. What for go through all the trouble of a fight? But I gotta say I was very much amused by the situation. Quickly finished my food and watched the whole drama that was going on right in front of me. Man was he showing signs of an uneducated person! I’m glad Meiyan was watching all these so she should know what better to do next time! Wouldn’t want to disgrace ourselves hanging out with someone like that, would we? (FML am I being bitchy now or what?)

At the same time I felt proud for my friend to have nearly become the cause of a real fight. Like a fist fight in reality, not just any virtual cowardy fight over the Internet! Today you have 2 men who are willing to fight for you babe. Hiak hiak.

You think I’m such an awful girl smiling contentedly while watching all these happened lah but I was the one who put an end to the heated argument. Told Adam 不要跟没文化的人吵。Right in your face, Terry! HAHA. Finally had some peace after that. Packed our bags and left after a few minutes of awkward silence. And Terry even had the face to follow us behind! WTF!!!

Adam called and asked for Meiyan’s permission to beat up that guy. Needless to say, his permission was denied. LOL. Things would have been worse if Meiyan’s boyfriend were to know about this, considering he’s really hot-tempered and protective. Teehee.

Angela stayed close to me all the way back to uni because now she is forbidden from talking to Terry XD

After the Orange incident, Terry still had the guts to ask Meiyan whether she’s free after class to meet up! -.- But anyhow she politely declined.

He just wouldn’t give up huh! Stop terryrizing my friends!!!

The Alternative Guide to Phuket by Andrew

Hi guys! Firstly I just want to say that I am now safely back in London. Well, the week before I flew off, I took a short one week holiday to Phuket just to unwind after the 3 months I spent interning in KL.

I decided that instead of the usual and same old boring holiday review of various places to visit and eat, I would do a slightly different tips and review.

One of the first thing I wanted to do when I arrived at Phuket was to book some excursions like a boat trip to visit the islands and also do some ATV riding. I was quite lucky to chance upon this amazingly friendly lady travel agent call Kan. I later on realised that she offered me some ultra competitive prices (with some bargaining of course). Expect to pay around 1000-2000 baht for a island hopping cruise ship which will bring you to places like James Bond island. The cruise excursion included free coffee, tea, water and Coca Cola all day and also a buffet lunch and two canoeing trips. For the ATV, elephant ride and white water rafting excursion, expect to pay around 1500-2500 baht. In fact, Kan was so hospitable that she even introduced some places to eat and shop which I will talk about later in this post.

Here is a photo of her small shop called Multi Travel

Multi Travel

Her shop is located along Patong Beach and you will have to turn into a small street called Soi Post Office right after, you've guessed it, the large and unmissable Post Office building along Patong Beach.

If you are using a GPS unit, the GPS coordinate for this street is

N 07.89148, E 098.29438

Another thing which I really wanted to do in Phuket was to get a bespoke suit tailored. Kan recommended a tailor called RK Fashion located right at the end of the same street as her shop called RK Fashions. The tailors were very friendly and knowledgable and offered a good deal too. Look to pay around 3500-5000 Baht for a bespoke suit and trousers depending on the material that you choose and the quantity of order. I was very happy with my suit and the workmanship and finishing was just top quality.

Top tip: If you are looking to get a suit made and you are on a short holiday, I would advise you to visit the tailors as early as possible in your holiday. The more time the tailors get to work on your suit and the more time for them to try the suit on you and make alterations, the better.

RK Fashion

In terms of food, some of the better restaurants that I discovered and were recommended to me were Sabai Sabai at Patong Beach. Once again, Sabai Sabai is located at Soi Post Office along the same street as Multi Travel and RK Fashions. So what you could do for a wonderful day out is to have a suit measured, book an excursion and have a delicious lunch along the same row of shops. I didn't manage to take any photos of the food but here is a photo of the shop.

Sabai Sabai

Visit Sabai Sabai for great local Thai food and at competitive prices too.

Another restaurant which I visited was called The Seahag located at Soi Wattana Clinic. This street is off the main road of Patong Beach next to the Sutra Hotel and McDonalds. It is unmissable.

The Seahag

The Seahag serves up some absolutely delicious home cooked Thai food. The warm coconut salad and the stuffed squid were amongst my favourite dishes.

When I visited the restaurant, I initially thought that the prices of the food were more expensive than the average prices around Patong Beach. I later discovered that the portions are absolutely massive! I think the portion size in most of the eateries at Phuket were a little on the small size so I tended to order one or two extra dishes but this was most definitely a mistake at The Seahag. No worries because the restaurant offered to pack the leftovers for me which I was able to enjoy in the comfort of my hotel room the next day :D

Have you visited Phuket recently or are you planning a trip to Phuket? Let me know in the comments below and share your experiences with us.

Have a great day everybody!

Andrew
