Sated Egg Yolk Cronut @ Dotty's, TTDI

The salted egg yolk hype is still ongoing ever since Rebecca’s post on Le Bread Days that made the SS2 bakery instantly popular overnight. With salted egg yolk being the latest sought after, we have seen other cafés and bakeries grabbing this opportunity as their selling point.

One of the latest cafés that caught my attention was Dotty’s at TTDI that sells Salted Egg Yolk Cronut. So far I have not seen any café selling cronut (hybrid of croissant + doughnut) around Klang Valley. The only time I’ve tried was in Sydney – at one of the hipsters café at New Town.

I have not tried the popular Salted Egg Yolk Croissant at at Le Bread Days, hence I did not have any expectation/benchmark. On CNY Eve before heading back to my hometown, I happily walked into Dotty’s and found that it was crowded! The bakery was full, and there was a long queue formed at the side waiting for their table. Damn, like myself, everyone must have come here for the cronut!

Saved myself the waiting time because my friend who was early (or rather, I was late LOL) had managed to get ourselves a table by the time I arrived. We happily ordered one Salted Egg Yolk Cronut each and a Chocolate Cube for tasting.

While waiting, I observed that most of the patrons ordered their main course and cronut for dessert. IMO the cronut is in big serving and will be too much a dessert unless you go for sharing. Spotted an interesting pasta dish in their menu which was Salted Egg Spaghetti with Bacon.

It took quite a long while for our pastries and even drinks to arrive :(

Oh, their Salted Egg Yolk Cronut was empty on display when I arrived because it was served by 3 batches per day. We were right on time for the 2nd batch at 1pm.

The legendary Salted Egg Yolk Cronut on social media has finally arrived! We couldn’t wait to dig in!

The salted egg yolk was not just on the top layer but the filling as well, which the bakery was quite generous with.

I personally did not enjoy the cronut as the salted egg yolk filling was cold! *shudders* I can accept the filling being over creamy but when its creamy and cold at the same time. . . T__T Plus the inside of the pastry was really greasy.

By the time I finished a quarter of the oozing cronut, I was already feeling nauseous. Ended up leaving half of it untouched :/

I would highly recommend that you request the waiter to heat up your cronut if you ever visit Dotty’s. It would certainly make a big difference to the overall experience.

As for the Chocolate Cube, it tasted like it was left on the shelf for several hours, which it probably was. We thought it was slightly better than the cronut, but didn’t quite like it either.

That being said, I wouldn’t put down Dotty’s completely as I think they are incredible opportunists that sell the right product at the right timing. For that I would suggest you give it a try, and perhaps you would enjoy it.
