Sibu- Diang Miang Ngu

Why Sibu? It’s not a tourism destination, not really the kind of place you would choose to go on vacation. If you ask me, I would say if given enough time and money, I would definitely pay my visit to every town in Malaysia.

Did I not sound very convincing? Fine, that’s not the point. For now, I’m just gonna post up some scenery shots throughout my stay in Sibu. Photos might be of a little lousy quality cause they’re all taken with my camera phone XD

Photobucket

Pintu Gerbang Sibu which we drove by almost every day.

Photobucket

An ordinary street in Sibu town.

Photobucket

Cathay cinema which I did not visit. Watched Knight & Day in King’s Trioplex instead. Will blog about that later.

Photobucket

This is near Sibu Cultural Heritage Centre which was still being refurbished.

Photobucket

Passed by a church. The sky looks good whenever I’m on vacation =)

Photobucket

Parents picking up their kids from school has become a common scene when it reaches noon time.

Photobucket

Walking down the street of Sibu feeling like one of the town’s folks.

Photobucket

Later on, we went to a Diang Miang Ngu stall somewhere around Wisma Sanyan (the tallest building in Sarawak). Had to walk past alleys in order to find our way there.

Photobucket

Apparently it’s a very famous Diang Miang Ngu stall in Sibu despite being an old shop lot. It was crowded when we arrived.

Photobucket

In case you have no idea what Diang Miang Ngu is, it’s something like Mi Hun Kueh, or what you call Pan Mee. Served with savoury soup, fish balls, black fungus and squids. The difference is the way they cook the dough by sticking them around the wok before mixing them into the soup.

Photobucket

The best selling point of this shop should be its home made fish balls.

Photobucket

It’s not recommended to eat Diang Miang Ngu during day time though, cause you’ll be flooded by your own sweat before you even finish it.

Photobucket

A traditional looking spinning thingy, dunno what it’s called.

Photobucket

We were probably the last customers who left the shops. LOL.

Photobucket

After lunch, we drove past a park during which I captured this awesome photo. Like I said, the sky always looks good when I’m on vacation. Teehee.

Okay that’s all for now. Rushing off this post and getting ready to Zouk! Hiak hiak.

iTalk WHOA Special Rate Promotion

So the next day after I came back from Sibu, I was horrified to discover that my Sony Ericsson phone charger had stopped functioning. No sign of charging no matter how hard I poked it through the socket. I tried to hit it hard at first, then caress it and even spoke to it in a polite manner just so it would stop pulling the prank but none of my trick worked! Something must have gone wrong when they checked in my luggage at the airport. Perhaps my poor charger just wasn’t used to travelling. At that moment, I didn’t have any spare charger and I had forgotten where I kept the USB cable. I was supposed to hang out with college mate on that day but couldn’t call anyone to reconfirm our plan as my phone battery went flat.

In such moment of exasperation, something wonderful came to my mind. Hey, why not just switch on my computer and call them with iTalk WHOA? I’ve topped up enough credit after all! So despite the fact that my phone battery had gone kaput, I still managed to contact them by using iTalk WHOA!

Photobucket

And speaking of that, iTalkWHOA is having a special rate promotion from 15th July 2010 till 31st December 2010! Special deals as follows:

Coco Steamboat with Bitches & Beasts

It’s been a while since the Bitches & Beasts (what my college mates and I called ourselves) had our last gathering. The Taylors’ gang had been so caught up with their assignment hence our gathering plan was often postponed. Now that they’re having a short winter break, it’s finally time for us to reunite! Especially with Ben leaving for Melbourne U in a few days from now! He’s secured himself a full tuition fees in Melbourne U, awesome!

We went to a new steamboat restaurant at Bukit Hijau, Cheras. Coco Steamboat if I’m not mistaken.

Photobucket

The usual steamboat ingredient.

Photobucket

Their steamboat soup is da bomb! Boiled with gigantic bones and idk what other secret stuff, it just tastes so heavenly it makes you crave for more! The unique selling point that made it so special compared to other steamboat.

Photobucket

Delicious lamb.

Photobucket

Porky pork.

Photobucket

Let the men do the honour.

Photobucket

A souvenir I bought from Melbourne a while ago. Can you guess what’s in that pink little container? XD

Photobucket

Shan and Mei.

Photobucket

Ben, Sai and Kian.

Photobucket

We were so bloated after gobbling down all the noodles and vermicelli. Carbs alert!

Photobucket

Continued our yumcha session at Kopiboy after dinner. It’s located at the same row as the furniture shops.

Photobucket

Vivian joined us there after her job briefing.

Photobucket

We fit in perfectly after several attempts. Teehee.

Photobucket

Last but not least, a rather blurry group shot.

Photobucket

Will be bidding farewell to Ben very soon. It’s good to see each of us heading to our own directions and moving on with life after our college year. Always hated the separation part, but we know we’ll still remain friends in years to come =)

Octopus Sushi & Thai

Today isn’t exactly a pleasant day, but I thank God that I’ve made it through so well. Just like any other occasional weekend, I spent the day alone doing what I do best. How wonderful it is that Wangsa Walk is opened before I leave this place, so I could indulge myself with the latest movies without having to travel too far. I wanted to watch Eclipse, but the 4.20pm session was ALL SOLD! Saturday blockbuster craze huh? “Not even one left???” “Yea not even one.” Gawd. The same goes for the 5.20pm show, and all other time line except 12.10am! Since I was already there, I didn’t want to just head back without watching something. So guess what was my back-up plan? The Back-up Plan! I was lucky to have gotten myself a nice seat out of only 3 unoccupied seats at that point of time. I had gotten myself free tickets for the movie screening earlier on but couldn’t make it as I wasn’t in KL. It turned out to be a rather good movie, but now that I’ve watched it, the idea of having a baby (or babies) freaks me out.

Was craving for Japanese rice after the movie, then I came across this new restaurant called Octopus Sushi & Thai (which reminds me of Paul the octopus). The waitress said there was a 15% off all sushi, but when the bill came, it was 50%! Looks like they’ve gotta improve on their pronunciation. Some waitress had difficulty comprehending my sentences as they’re foreign workers, possibly from Vietnam or Myanmar. Over all the sushi look disgusting but taste fine. There was no name of the sushi on the menu, only pictures, so you have to be smart enough to figure out by yourselves. The restaurant was in chaos during dinner time as the crowd was too much to be handled by the inexperienced staff. I waited so ridiculously long for my Chawanmushi! Good thing it tasted fine otherwise I would have left the place being a sulky and dissatisfied customer, and the next thing you know, I would be writing shit about Octopus Sushi here.

Here are some photos taken:

Photobucket

Cute Tako!

Photobucket

The interior.

Photobucket

The menu. A wide variety of choice, seriously.

Photobucket

Choice of sushi is quite limited though.

Photobucket

It wasn’t exactly appealing to me. But no doubt they were generous with the ingredient.

Photobucket

I didn’t know what this was until I tried. Yummy soft-shell crab!

Photobucket

My long-awaited Chawanmushi.

Photobucket

Look, it’s 50% off! Opening promotion is valid till next Friday. Better hurry if you’re keen for some cheap sushi!

Photobucket

Ready to go home after dinner, only to realize there was a heavy downpour. Just like I expected, and the reason I brought along my new umbrella. I then decided to hang out in Popular a little while, hoping that the rain might reduce into a drizzle. That was where I rediscovered my forever hidden passion for books all over again. Couldn’t help but to wander around the book racks, flipping through the thick pages of the new arrivals and the best-sellers, knowing perfectly well that I would not bring myself to spend a single penny on those books. No. Not now. Not when I’m broke. Not at this time when clothes and accessories seem more worthwhile. I’m sorry Sophie Kinsella and Jodi Picoult, I really love your books but I’m too kiam siap to buy them. On the other hand, why are classical novels always so dirt cheap??? RM13 for an unabridged version! Wtfreak. But I wouldn’t buy it. As much as I could remember, I spent one whole year forcing myself to finish Little Women.

Moving on from the books, I had my eyes set on the stationery. Gosh, don’t you love stationery shopping? I mean, look at those colourful yet affordable pen and highlighters! I need stationery, I really do. Uni is starting next week you see, and I don’t wanna get thrown out of class for not bringing my colour pencils Pilot ball pen. At one point I was so fascinated by some photo albums and birthday cards, I had to pull myself away from the temptations with a self-reminder that goes NO-YOU-DON’T-NEED-THOSE-CRAP! A packet of pink post-it-note wouldn’t hurt though, since it costs like RM2.10, and like I said, it was pink! I figured it might be one useful way to communicate with my soon-to-be housemates starting from next week. I hope they won’t be too surprised to see my pink post-it-note on the toilet seat when they wake up in the morning! Teehee. Oh, it was a shame that I had to let go of the liquid correction pen after discovered the amount of cash I had in my purse. RM35 is pathetic. I didn’t want to walk back home under the rain having no money to pay for the cab after spending them all on stationery =(
It appeared that taxis are high on demand during a rainy night like this. Either that, or the taxi drivers are all staying home attempting to make babies with their wives. I always have this impression that people get turned on by such weather. It took me a while to finally hail a taxi. Upon reaching home, I realized I forgot to dabao some Rotiboy. Sigh, I need my supper!

I Iz Bek from Sibu

Hola! Pleased to inform that your highness is back from Sibu. It’s a shame that 6days have passed so rapidly. As we drove our way to the airport, the familiarity hit me as if we had just landed the day before. I was sad to leave the small peaceful town, for my departure indicates the end of vacation and the beginning of new semester.

I’ve tried all good food in Sibu during my short period of stay. My only regret from the trip is having forgotten to snap a photo of the teh-tarik longkang which is always on high tide around the residential area. So you can imagine how the place would be flooded by muddy drain water when it starts to rain. Jeez.

Will definitely post up more about Sibu soon! For now let’s be entertained by my non-cosmetic nude face. For the very first time I look nice without make-up!

Photobucket

For those who have seen my naked face before, I’m sure you’ve noticed the difference. Yesh, the double eyelids! Awesome or what! Teehee.

Pavilion, Tropicana, 1Utama and KLCC

Welcome back from Poland, Kim! Don’t we love summer break? It’s the best time of the year when people take time off from studies or work for vacation, or in this case, to come back home.

Photobucket

A few days after her arrival, we went up to KL for shopping, food, movie, and more shopping! Our first destination is none other than Pavilion when I went out of control and overspent in Forever21 despite having told myself only to spend on food. Valid excuse: I need clothes for my Sibu trip! LOL.

Looking all worn out after the tiring bus journey from Muar.

Photobucket

We had Snowflake for tea break.

Photobucket

Uh uh, no icy dessert for me as my flu wasn’t getting any better.

Photobucket

Kim stayed over at my place and I must say it gave us an opportunity to catch up after so long. I had quite forgotten how close we used to be during our high school year before realizing I had told her so much about my relationships in the past. And that night, we listened to each others’ stories and laughed about how much our boys share in common (mostly being the bad things in common wtf).

We didn’t wake up till noon time the next day. Took the train all the way to Kelana Jaya, had to wait for 30minutes for 1u bus so we simply hopped on to Tropicana City Mall’s shuttle bus. Reached there just in time to get our movie tickets- Sex & the City! *screams*

Adult RM7; Student RM6. Freaking cheap! XD (I was the adult by the way, life sucks without a student ID)

Photobucket

French toast before movie.

Photobucket

Vain picta of us.

Photobucket

Heart the big mirror in the toilet.

Photobucket

Forced her to camwhore with me. Teehee.

Photobucket

Outfit of the day:
Striped tank: Forever 21
Cropped jacket: Valleygirl
Skinny jeans: Forever 21
Studded flats: Mixit
Bling hair band: i-forgot-the-brand
Bag: Longchamp
Necklace & bracelet: Topshop

Photobucket

We met up with Jess
after her work. Was supposed to have dinner together but we got distracted by a lingerie fair where I bought 2 sets of new bra which I didn’t really need. Doesn’t hurt to get 2 more bras though, especially since they’re really cheap! Definitely worth buying!

Photobucket

Before the food was served in Dragon-I, Jess had to rush back for a briefing. She’s such an angel to have fetched us back. Thank God for GPS!

On the third day, Kim and I went to KLCC. I had only 40 bucks in my wallet. Still, I was in such a pathetically desperate state that I borrowed cash from her to join the long queue in Zara! Wtfreak. Blame it on the perfect white shorts (exactly what I needed)! You don’t wanna see my bank account. Am officially broke.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I'm going to bore you again with my outfit of the day:
Tank top: Zara
Leopard print cardigan: Cotton On
Body con skirt: Supre
Studded flats: Mixit
Pink bow hair-clip: i-forgot-the-brand (the same brand as my bling hair band)
Necklace: Topshop

Photobucket

Anyone care to sponsor me new accessories? It’s so frustrating to see my golden rings and necklaces turned copper black. Pfft.
