Passport Renewal at Kelana Jaya Immigration

This is a quick guide if you are renewing your Malaysian passport.

For those who are staying at PJ area, there’s an immigration office located at Kelana Jaya. Full address and contact at the end of this post.

Instead of wasting your time queuing up and filling up forms, you can now renew your passport within a minute by using a kiosk. To avoid any trouble, make sure you prepare the required documents and the exact amount of cash beforehand.

2 years – RM100
5 years – RM300
The machine accepts RM50 and RM100 notes only.

Once you reach the immigration, there might be people handing you forms and stuff. Don’t bother them, just head straight to the kiosk which is located straight after the entrance at a corner. There might be a small queue depending on your luck. When I was there, there were only 2 people waiting for the machine which was rather surprising. I suppose many of them are unaware of the kiosk yet.

Insert your passport, scan your thumbs, make your payment (at the kiosk itself) and you’ll be issued a receipt. Your passport will be ready in an hour’s time!

One more tip, be sure you reach there before 3.30pm because once it’s passed 3.30pm, the machine will state that the collection is a day after. I missed it by 8 minutes hence the collection time was 9am the next day according to the machine. But then I tried to persuade the officer aiyooo nak ambil hari ini boleh lah boleh lah, so he said okay it’ll be ready in an hour! WIN \o/

After an hour, you’ll need to proceed to either counter 1 or 2 to be issued a number. I tried to get the number after 45 minutes thinking if I do so I don’t have to wait so long, but they’ll only issue the number once your passport is read. LOL.

No delay that day so my passport was ready in an hour! Waited another 15 minutes or so until my number was called. The whole process was rather quick and efficient.

I think the tricky part of all is to find the immigration office. Make sure you read the map thoroughly before the journey. There are a few Glomac building at Kelana Jaya like Menara Glomac and Wisma Glomac. Plaza Glomac is the correct one!

jolene: in that case you'll have to fill up the form and renew it the traditional way at the counter. or perhaps you can try to do it online?

Apparently you can renew it on weekends. I was there earlier but the queue was long. Took the form and went home instead. Will probably have better luck trying tomorrow.

I went on Sunday (yesterday).. there was this long b****y que, and I was the last despite arriving at 8.45 am. After 15 mins queing, they announced at the door that they were not giving out any more counter tickets - quota reached for the day. It was mayhem with the others that arrived and queued early. Thankfully I didn't spend much time in line so wasn't too bothered as I this wasn't a surprise to me (anymore). The officer said to come back on weekdays as the kiosk is open. I assumed that means the passport renewal kiosk does not work on weekends as it too needs a day off....

I went there this morning and the queue was long. And the kiosk was not operating, all thru counter...and I didn't wait...

Do they offer free passport photo-taking? or we'll have to bring our own passport-size photo?

Copykate said...

Florence: Unfortunately there's no free photo service. There's photo-taking booth nearby but I would suggest you bring along your own photos :)
